Emily Rees
Coach
I am a family caregiving coach who helps caregivers deflate their stress, break through obstacles, and discover their zest for an energized and joy-centered journey,
My personal journey as a family caregiver is an emotional one. I served as primary caregiver to my mother, in my mother’s home, over a three ½- year time span.
This caregiving season was interwoven with emotional baggage concerning my identity and family relationships and coincided with my divorce after 35 years of marriage. I learned a great deal about God's transformative power of forgiveness and healing, both during my caregiving journey and following my mother's passing in 2020.
I also utilized my creativity and expertise as an occupational therapist to help make my caregiver journey easier, fun, and more enjoyable.
I am now on a caring for family caregivers mission. I am helping to transform their caregiving journey from mental and emotional negativity and physical exhaustion to wholeness, creative solutions, greater ease, and enjoyment.
Since the age of thirteen I have cared and shown deep compassion for hundreds of disabled and elderly people in hospitals, rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities, group and individual homes. In 2008 I sustained a devastating cervical spinal cord injury which left me temporarily wheelchair bound as I underwent extensive rehabilitation. I also know firsthand the challenges of living with chronic pain and sensory loss. I have instructed countless families care strategies as they care for their loved ones. I know first-hand the value of being a compassionate and front and center family caregiver.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish literature from Colorado College and a Master’s degree in occupational therapy from the Medical College of Virginia. I am a licensed occupational therapist and mother of four wonderful grown children. I currently live in New Hampshire and love nature, exploration, travel and, most importantly, connecting with and encouraging people to overcome obstacles and experience breakthrough.
